- Now at its best: Honey
A creamy smoothie made with kefir, fresh or frozen berries and a swirl of honey, finished with a few mint leaves. Lightly tart from the kefir, sweet and fruity from the berries, and just thick enough to drink comfortably through a straw.
In the glass this smoothie already looks inviting: a firm purple-pink from the berries, topped with the velvet creaminess of the kefir. The first sip gives you the berry first, full and fruity, followed straight away by that typical light tartness of kefir that balances the sweetness. The honey slips through subtly and rounds everything off without masking the fruit. What really stands out is the texture: kefir creates a slightly looser creaminess than thick yogurt, so the smoothie flows rather than sticks. The mint takes a few sips to arrive, bringing a cool herbal close that, together with the tartness of the kefir, gives the drink the fresh character that sets it apart from a standard berry smoothie. A lovely breakfast or snack: substantial enough to pause for, yet light enough to carry you on with your day.

Nutritional Synergies
This recipe combines ingredients that enhance each other:
Polyphenols support probiotics
Technical: Kefir contains 30-50 different bacterial and yeast strains — much more diverse than yogurt. Blueberries' polyphenols (anthocyanins) are prebiotic: they are fermented by gut bacteria into bioactive metabolites that promote growth of beneficial strains. This further strengthens kefir's already diverse microbiome.
What does this mean for you? Mix blueberries into your kefir as breakfast or smoothie. The berries feed the rich bacterial culture in kefir — a synbiotic combination for your gut flora.

Ingredients (5)
-
Kefir — 300 g plain, no added sugar; may be replaced with Greek yogurt if kefir is not available -
Blueberries — 100 g fresh or from the freezer
Instructions
- 1 Put the 300g of kefir together with the blueberries and raspberries into a blender. If you use frozen berries, let them rest at room temperature for 2-3 minutes so the texture turns out smoother and your blender doesn't have to struggle.
