  • Now at its best: Honey

Small cups made of thin, snappy 70% dark chocolate with a creamy filling of natural peanut butter, lightly sweetened with a little honey and finished with a pinch of sea salt. No palm oil, no artificial flavourings, no refined-sugar bomb — just the classic peanut-butter and chocolate contrast in a controlled, one-cup portion.

Replaces: Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Snickers minis, chocolate candies

Chill time: 45 min

Everything that makes a peanut-butter cup so satisfying — the snappy bite of dark chocolate and the creamy, lightly-salted peanut-butter filling — but built from a very short ingredient list: dark chocolate (70% cocoa), natural peanut butter, a little honey, a touch of coconut oil for a smoother ganache and a pinch of sea salt. No palm oil, no glucose syrup, no lecithin extracts and no artificial flavourings.

Why better: Natural peanut butter is simply 100% peanuts (sometimes with salt) and provides, according to USDA data, around 25 g of protein and 5 g of fibre per 100 g; protein contributes to the growth and maintenance of muscle mass (EU 432/2012). Dark chocolate with at least 70% cocoa is, per USDA, a source of magnesium (around 170 mg per 100 g); magnesium contributes to normal muscle function and to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue (EU 432/2012). The portion is intentionally small: one cup of around 33 g.

Nutritional Synergies

This recipe combines ingredients that enhance each other:

Synergy
Coconut Oil Coconut Oil Honey Honey

MCTs protect honey enzymes — complementary bioactive compounds

Technical: Coconut oil contains lauric acid (48%), a medium-chain fatty acid (MCT). Honey contains glucose oxidase producing hydrogen peroxide. Together they provide complementary bioactive compounds. MCTs also help preserve fat-soluble compounds in honey.

What does this mean for you? Combine coconut oil with honey in energy balls, granola or as coating for snacks. The combination is both flavorful and functional.

Protein + fast carbohydrates for post-workout recovery

Technical: After training, glycogen stores are depleted. Honey provides fast sugars (glucose + fructose) that replenish glycogen and stimulate insulin. Insulin triggers amino acid transport to muscles via the mTOR pathway, making muscle protein synthesis 20-30% higher than with protein alone. Optimal ratio is 3-4:1 carbs:protein.

What does this mean for you? Eat 2 tablespoons peanut butter with 1 tablespoon honey within 30 minutes after training. The honey replenishes your energy stores, the insulin spike helps shuttle protein from the peanut butter to your muscles faster.

MCTs increase flavanol absorption from dark chocolate

Technical: Dark chocolate contains flavanols (epicatechin, catechin) and theobromine. Coconut oil's MCTs are quickly absorbed and improve absorption of these fat-soluble polyphenols. The combination also gives a smooth texture.

What does this mean for you? Melt dark chocolate with coconut oil for chocolate coating, truffles or energy bites. The bioactive compounds of the chocolate are optimally utilized.

Magnesium + protein + theobromine for muscles and energy

Technical: Dark chocolate provides 230mg magnesium/100g and theobromine. Peanut butter contains 25g protein and 168mg magnesium per 100g. Together they provide ~400mg magnesium (100% RDI) plus complete amino acids. The fat from peanut butter also improves flavanol absorption.

What does this mean for you? Peanut butter chocolate cups are not only delicious but nutritionally smart. Perfect as post-workout snack for muscle recovery.
